  • As such, any school can claim to make use of the educational method.

The Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), founded by Dr. Montessori herself and directed from the Netherlands, trains teachers and accredits schools in a manner that closely aligns with Dr. Montessori's original philosophy and pedagogy.

Austin Montessori School is accredited by AMI and all our lead guides (teachers), our Head of School, pedagogical directors, and most senior administrators are trained by AMI.

AMI teacher training is rigorous: the course requires either a full academic year or three summers and culminates in the inspection of student-written teaching albums and several days of oral and written exams. AMI offers diplomas for Assistants to Infancy (ages 0 - 3), Primary (ages 2.5 to 6), Elementary (ages 6 - 12), and Adolescence (ages 12 - 18). Only a limited number of individuals complete the training each year and are in high demand around the country and the world.

Austin Montessori School is also accredited by the Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools (TAAPS) which sets standards of excellence in Texas education.

Our school maintains membership in the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the Enrollment Management Association (EMA), and Independent School Management (ISM). Our teachers are members of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). The school is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS), which inspects before- and after-school programs for children from birth to age six to ensure the minimum standards required by the state of Texas. Parents may obtain a copy of the minimum standards of the TDFPS and the school's most recent licensing report by contacting Dawn Michal, Director of Operations. To contact the agency, call 713-940-5284 or visit their website at www.dfps.state.tx.us.
