Short O, Long evening
We were at a restaurant the other night, seated under a giant mural of an octopus. While we waited for our food, we played phonics I Spy. The octopus mural was about 12 feet high. Keep that in mind.
“I spy something beginning with o,” I said, using the short O sound.
My three-year-old looked around. “O… o… oh… oah… ooah…”
I was delighted as he worked through the different sounds O can make.
“Oh… oah… oah… OLD LADY!”
He shouted, pointing directly at the woman at the next table.

Great phonics. Terrible manners.
