Do you know, watching the children play in the backyard last week, I was reminded of one of the true gifts of the young child — they are true seers. To watch them watch, longer than I might have, caused me to go back and look again; to get down to their level and see it through their eyes. … I notice this deep “seeing” in the child, transfixed on a bench on the porch, frozen in the process of changing shoes, enraptured by the sound of rain on the tin roof. It is all still new to them! They’ve not become accustomed to the wonders of the natural world, and so they still marvel at them with soul-filling wonder.
