How applying works

Austin Montessori’s waitlist is a pool, not a list. Because our classrooms are mixed ages, we offer places as they open based on what each classroom’s balance needs, not necessarily the order the application was received.

Applying (with the $100 fee, per child) adds your child to the waiting pool, but does not guarantee a place.

Good to know

You can apply any time of year.
No prior Montessori experience is needed for our youngest program (16 months–3 years).
Prior Montessori experience is preferred for Elementary (grades 1–6) and the Adolescent program (grades 7–9), however we consider exceptions case by case.
Siblings of current families are prioritized.
We make first decisions in February. Apply by January 31 for the first round of enrollment offers. Rolling applications are offered after.

Entering cycle

Find your child’s program

Pick your child’s age group to see the entry options and important information.

If applying to the YCC, you will be asked to select from one of two options:

YCC Beginning Cycle: Children enter typically between 16 and 18 months and must be stable walkers. Children over 20 months old are moved to the waiting pool for the Children’s House.
YCC Full Cycle: Children older than 20 months and younger than three years old who are transferring from another Montessori program.

Although children in the YCC do not wear diapers (they wear underwear exclusively), they do not need to be fully toilet-independent to enter.

If applying to the Children’s House (CH), you will be asked to select from one of three options:

CH Beginning Cycle: Children between 2 years 10 months and 3.5 years old. Prior Montessori experience is not required, but enrollment is contingent on the child being toilet-independent. Diapers or pull-up diapers are not permitted.
CH Mid Cycle: Children who are 4 and 5 years of age. We typically do not enroll children over four into the Children’s House unless transferring from another Montessori program. If your child is over four, please contact admissions before applying.
CH Full Cycle: Children between 5 and 6 years of age, referred to in traditional schools as being in their “kindergarten” year.

A teacher recommendation form is required for all applicants over the age of four and must be sent directly from your child’s current school.

If applying to the Early Elementary (EE), you will be asked to select from one of three options:

EE Beginning Cycle: 1st Grade, with priority given to children with prior Montessori experience.
EE Mid Cycle: 2nd Grade, with priority given to children with prior Montessori experience.
EE Full Cycle: 3rd Grade, with priority given to children with prior Montessori experience.

Age: children are typically six years old by September 1 to begin Early Elementary.
Up to two (2) Teacher Recommendation Forms.*
Transcript Release Form with report card/transcripts (last two years if applicable).*
*All recommendation forms and report cards/transcripts must be sent directly from your child’s current school.

If applying to the Upper Elementary (UE), you will be asked to select from one of three options:

UE Beginning Cycle: 4th Grade, with prior Montessori experience required.
UE Mid Cycle: 5th Grade, with prior Montessori experience required.
UE Full Cycle: 6th Grade, with prior Montessori experience required.

Age: children are typically nine years old by September 1 to begin Upper Elementary.
Up to two (2) Teacher Recommendation Forms.*
Transcript Release Form with report card/transcripts (last two years if applicable).*
*All recommendation forms must be sent directly from your child’s current school. Report cards can be uploaded by the parent or emailed to the Admissions Office.

If applying to the Adolescent Community (AC), you will be asked to select from one of three options:

AC Beginning Cycle: 7th Grade, with prior Montessori experience preferred but not required.
AC Mid Cycle: 8th Grade, transferring from another Montessori Adolescent program.
AC Full Cycle: 9th Grade, transferring from another Montessori Adolescent program.

Age: children must be 12 years old by September 1 to begin 7th grade.
At least two (2) Teacher Recommendation Forms.*
Transcript Release Form with report card/transcripts (last two years if applicable).*
*All recommendation forms must be sent directly from your child’s current school. Report cards can be uploaded by the parent or emailed to the Admissions Office.
